Inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, a group of young enthusiasts of Kalikata and Rashpur villages of Amta, founded Agragati to help and support the victims of unprecedented flood of South Bengal during September - October 1978.
To give Agragati an organizational setup it was registered as a non-profit making society on 19.10.1979 and subsequently registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. With an aim to achieve sustainable development through empowerment and capacity building of the poorest of the rural poor, particularly the scheduled caste, the tribes and other downtrodden section of the society. Women and children are the most vulnerable section who suffers most in any violence or in natural calamity specially, in our country where gender bias is deep rooted. Agragati strongly believes that development of the society can not be possible with contribution from outside only - input from within is equally important.....
